Participating in the Australian Space Design Competition has been described as "one of the best experience's of my life", and not just by one critic!

How do you see the exposure/experiences learnt helping you in your studies, and your own personal character building?

"The exposure to the Competition definitely taught me how to manage my time well and to organise things in a simple and logical manner. It also trained me to think out of the box and perform tasks professionally."

What was the most interesting experience you encountered during the competition?

"Having lunch with a NASA engineer who worked on the Mercury and Apollo missions!"

What were your experiences / values learnt from the exposure of international competitions such as the ISSDC?

"From this competition, I have learnt many useful abilities, like time management and team management. But most importantly, the ability to communicate with team mates."

As you can see from the Overview page (see the tab at the left of screen), the competition is composed of three elements. The ASDC Preliminary Round, the ASDC Finals, and the ISSDC Finals. Each round is slightly different, and will expose you to new tasks, problems and difficulties. But, regardless of how far through the competition your team goes, you are guaranteed to learn:

  • Time management;
  • How to work in a business environment;
  • Leadership;
  • How to produce a professional quality business report;
  • Organisational skills and group management ; &
  • How to have fun doing all that!

The link below will take you to a document specially prepared for ASDC entrants, both potential and current. The information within the document will guide you through:

  • How to form your team;
  • How to handle group dynamics and team composition;
  • How to form a practical working timeline for your submission; &
  • Where to start;

The Information Pack also contains an introduction to the ASDC and ISSDC, which could be useful for explaining the Competition to potential teammates, or friends or family. There is also a deconstruction of a section from a previous entry, so you can see exactly what the content of your submission should be. And, finally, there is a hints and tips page to help get you started!
