Welcome to the Australian Space Design
Competition (ASDC). This competition is an exciting industry simulation
experience open to all current secondary school students in Australia.
Students participating in the competition are required to design a
significant infrastructure development in space considering a range of
issues including structural engineering, human factors, communications,
food production, energy requirements and transportation.
Be part of history and be part of a team
that designs 'AYNAH', THE FIRST LARGE SPACE SETTLEMENT TO BE DEVELOPED IN ORIT AROUND MERCURY. Click here to read the preliminary
RFP (Request for Proposal).
Full details of development requirements
and the competition scenario are outlined in a Request for Proposal
(RFP) will be forwarded upon your team's registration. Finalists will
be invited to participate in the Australian Regional finals in January
2012. The winners of the Australian Regional finals earn a place in the
International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) finals to be
held in Houston, Texas in July 2011.
What's in it for Students?
If you're interested in working in a
team environment, developing high level communication skills, and on
the off chance, would find competing in an international competition at
NASA (the Johnson Space Centre!) interesting, then this competition is
for you. By registering a team and submitting a tender document you
could win a place in the Australian finals to be held in Brisbane next
January!

Home Page for more information and a free Student Information Pack

ASDC - A Great Opportunity for
Teachers!
By leading a team in the development
of a design for a space settlement, teachers have the unique
opportunity to foster problem solving skills and collaborative learning
across a broad range of curriculum areas. While there is a significant
focus on Mathematics, Science and Technology, in preparing their
submissions, teams must develop high level communication skills and
demonstrate a sound knowledge of business modeling and resource
management. The ASDC is the ultimate rich task and can be incorporated
into a broad range of curriculum areas.
Feel free to visit the Teacher and Mentor Home Page, which provides
greater detail on the details and nuances of the Competition. Also take
the time to download the free Teacher Information Pack, available for
all current and potential ASDC teacher advisors.

HOT NEWS
In July this year, 13 students and 3 teachers representing 4 different schools travelled to the USA to compete in the International Space Settlement Design Competition.
After two weeks of preparation visiting sites such as Kennedy Space Centre (Florida) and the Smithsonian Institute (Washington D.C.), the Australian team joined over 100 other students from countries such as Uruguay, England, India and Pakistan to compete.
Although unsuccessful in taking out the major prize, the team did exceptionally well, gaining a great deal from the experience and this will no doubt continue to boost the high standard of the local competition.
